This week Quint from Win Your Mind has, in a round about sort of way, inspired me to get going with my Japanese language study. I am already working hard on learning kanji, but this has little advantage in my ability to communicate on an average day. So now I have to get going on my conversation training again, but this time I have to take it more seriously.
So if I am to get serious about learning Japanese, I want to make sure that I am as effective as possible.
With any goal like this there is a critical turning point. When we get there everything starts to come together.
If we are learning the oboe, when we reach the turning point where we enjoy listenning to ourselves, then our efforts become self motivating.
If we are trying to become a runner, then the turning point is we get past the uncomfort and to the stage where we enjoy the training. Then our efforts will become more effective.
In my case I am trying to master Japanese conversation. My turning point will be when I can speak and listen well enough to practice in everyday situations. I must progress, as quickly as possible, past the “cat and dog” stage of vocabulary and on to a more useful stage. I have to get to this turning point as quickly and as efficiently as possible. From that point onwards my efforts will be much more productive and effective.
The only mystery now is how to get to this turning point as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Any suggestions
Thanks
Tom
