The Life Goal Action Code of Blogging

Today I wrote an article (or more a rant) about the downfall of the internet.  It became one big complaint about the swelling ranks of seo experts and affiliate marketing gurus, and how they could gradually turn the internet into a ghost town.  When I went back and re-read my final edit I was ashamed.  I had written a winging self righteous condemnation that had no constructive merit.  So I quickly diverted my mouse away from the Publish button and took a break.

I had a good hard look at my own participation in the internet and I’m glad that I did.  I decided that rather than complaining about all of the valueless material online, I should concentrate on ensuring that my own contribution is making a positive difference.  To help make this happen I have set up my own Code of Blogging  that I will put into practice on LifeGoalAction.  I hope you appreciate and benefit from any changes that result.

  1. I will only publish what I believe is unique online.
  2. If I do not have anything valuable to publish then I will not publish anything.
  3. I will only publish what I am 100% convinced is true, reliable and effective.
  4. I will be open and honest about my sources, affiliations and financial incentives.
  5. I will respect my readers time and energy by practicing brevity.
  6. I will use the power that blogging provides to do good.
  7. I will respect the privacy and value of anyone who contacts me.
  8. I will live my life online with exactly the same integrity that I practice offline.

Does that sound like a complete list of what is important?  If you have anything to add or change, I’d love to hear it.  Otherwise I’ll make this code permanent with a link from my header bar.

Thanks

Tom

  1. wow if I may adopt and adapt it so that when I post (more often ha ha then I do now!) it’s all good. Your blog is really inspiring!

  2. Hi Amy

I think we could all do with a framework to base our writing on. A code like this helps me to check off “Am I writing to my own standards” or do I just have an itchy trigger finger on the Publish button?

    Thanks

    Tom
