LifeGoalAction is now 2 months old, so I have decided it is time for a quick over view of what it is about and why it exists.
Before I launched this site, I did some research about what was available online. As I searched the internet for information about life skills and personal development, I found a mass of different sites. Finding more and more, I started to realise that they naturally fell into different types. Each type had a slightly different focus and objectives.
It made me think of walking through a familiar city. When you know your way around a city, you start to see patterns. That street over there is full of the best Spanish restaurants, all clustered together. In that block most of the medical specialists have offices. The best second hand book shops are located in that area and the designer boutiques are mostly found on that avenue. This was what I found as I searched the internet for personal development sites. It was like walking through the busy central business district of Personal Development Town.
Down Specialist Street were clusters of sites written by people or small groups pursuing one type of goal or other. Some were becoming runners, some were becoming business executives, and some were becoming world class cellists. These are the specialist sites -with a small and tightly focused subject. These sites are valuable for information and inspiration related to achieving a specific objective.
Get it Done Road contains what I would call general productivity sites. They are sites dedicated to achieving the most with a fixed lifetime. They are characterised by providing working tips and techniques that allow people to do more things in the time they have available. The tools that they provide (often in point form for the sake of writing and reading more information, faster) are valuable in a lot of situations. The information is usually generic and so can be applied to getting a vast number of different things done quickly and efficiently.
Down Main Street are a string of big businesses that churn out personal development information by the truck load. They are sometimes fed by a team of writers and often there is little to link all of the different articles together. It takes a significant amount of searching to find articles that are interesting to you but when you find them they are often of high quality.
Guru Avenue is where the gurus of personal development are set up. A lot of these people are at the stage that they could publish their electricity bill and people would read it. Their sites focus on conventional wisdom, and since they have been writing there for years, they have a massive archive of information on a range of topics.
And then I looked down one small lane way and I found a lot of readers but very few writers. There were a few sites there, but I decided that it was the most undeveloped part of personal development town. I will call it Effectivity Street. The sites in this relatively new district, are solely focused on achieving results. They have no desire for productivity for its own sake. They are focused on effective productivity - only productivity that takes them closer to where they want to be. Their primary aim has changed from getting things done, to getting the right things done. Instead of trying to get more things done in a day, they actively seek to limit the number of things they do, so that they can do them really well. These people realise that we all have a choice in how we spend our lives. We can follow the fashion and try to do everything (producing average results in most areas) or we can decide what is important and do it really well.
Since this area was so under served and so valuable, I rented a shop in the middle of effectivity street and set to work building this site. The sign I hung out the front says LifeGoalAction and it came from the idea that there is a process towards effective living:
So Life Goal Action was born. There is still a long way to go. As you can see, even the visual appearance of the site is still pretty much “off the shelf”. I have been focusing on writing articles that are published every day that help us all in our effectivity. And so as of today I have decided to change the tag line that you see in the header to this page. The new tag line reads:
LifeGoalAction
Effectivity means Doing Less and Doing it Better
I hope this captures more accurately what this site is all about. If that is what you are looking for, please make yourself at home. I will continue to publish articles about effectivity and pursuing extraordinary goals here daily. If there is anything that I can do to help you on your own LifeGoalAction journey, please don’t hesitate to ask. Also I’d like to get to know you a bit better, so if you haven’t introduced yourself, drop me a line (by using the “contact” button) and tell me a little about your journey. I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks
Tom
