I hope you have at least a few of these 6 traits, but those that you don’t, can be picked up along the way. All of the 6 that I mentioned are freely available for the person that wants to spend the time developing them. Even the more difficult ones like stamina or intellect can be developed no matter where you are starting from. These are the ingredients for success, but they are brought to life in the company of one most important active ingredient:
The desire to succeed.
All of the 6 traits that lead to success hinge on this desire. Many people, so many people, have an abundance of the first six traits but don’t have enough of the desire to get them to work. They are able, but they aren’t willing, to do what it takes to succeed. They don’t have the drive or the motivation to do the work, even though they are capable. As a result they become content to cruise along with the flow and see what happens.
We all want to succeed but this is very different to the desire to succeed. What I am talking about is the passion or itch to reach a goal. The incentive that makes the hard work worth while.
Shine wrote an article about this at Shine With Grace describing how we are sometimes limitted by what we are unwilling to do, in order to succeed. I take this to mean the times when we stop short of full commitment to our goals. When we turn off the lights and shut down the shop before the job is done. This is a tragedy, because it makes a waste of all of the work that we do put in beforehand. We struggle and struggle but we stop before we reach our goal because we aren’t willing to see it out. Our desire is not strong enough.
Does this sound familiar?
Why will you succeed?
Note: Coincidently when I went back to Shine with Grace to get the link above, I see that she has just written an article about burning desire called Why You Should Do What You Love. Head over there and read this one too. I think you will be glad you did.
Thanks
Tom
Hi Tom,
Thanks for the link and I can’t agree you more that when we have the desire, we will find the ways to achieve our goals, be it learning new skills, making new connection and getting new resources.
